About the event
The museum is located at 1400 Constitution Avenue NW, Washington, DC. All groups should enter though the "Group Entrance" located on the Madison Drive NW. For information about bus parking, visit the District of Columbia Department of Transportation website. Expect to pass through a security screening. Avoid bringing large bags to get through security screens quickly. Planning Your Visit General Group Guidelines 1) It is difficult to keep a large group together for the entire visit. Groups of ten or more should consider splitting into smaller groups so that everyone can enjoy their time in the museum. 2) Prepare to stand for long periods of time in the museum and wear comfortable shoes. 3) Know before you go. Prepare for your visit by reading our frequently asked questions . Study the museum floor plans on our website. Understand what is and is not allowed inside the museum, the times the museum shop and cafe close, and the Smithsonian Institution Photography Policy . 4) Travel lightly. There are a limited number of lockers available on a first come, first served basis. Bring a quarter to use the locker; once finished, the quarter is refunded to you. 5) Download the NMAAHC Mobile App as a complement to your onsite Museum experience. 6) Plan for your departure. Make sure to designate a meeting location so your group can leave the museum together. 7) All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Guidelines for Educational Groups 1) All school groups must bring one (1) chaperone for every ten (10) students. Groups without an acceptable number of chaperones may be refused entry. 2) All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult at ALL times. It is the responsibility of the chaperone to stay with the group and keep students together. 3) Promote "museum manners" (quiet voices, walking instead of running). Remind students that museum exhibits must be respected so that all visitors can enjoy them. Information for Young Visitors 1) Please walk while in the museum and do not touch exhibits. 2) During you visit, speak with quiet tones in all areas of the museum. If our museum galleries and public spaces get too noisy, your visit will be less meaningful. 3) Gum, candy, food, and beverages are not allowed in the Museum. 4) No rough-play, throwing, running, spitting, backflips, or shouting will be tolerated. 5) Enjoy purchases from the museum shop after your visit. Visitors who use their purchases inappropriately in the museum risk confiscation.
